Sir Richard Dearlove, former head of MI6 is the John Casson Foundation guest speaker for this year’s fundraising dinner

The John Casson Foundation, renowned for its commitment to supporting charitable causes, is set to host its annual fundraising dinner at The Idle Rocks on Wednesday, 10th April 2024. The event, in aid of the Lord Lieutenant’s Fund for Young and Talented, promises to be an evening of insight and philanthropy.
This year’s guest speaker is none other than Sir Richard Dearlove, the former head of MI6.

Sir Richard Dearlove, born on January 23, 1945, joined MI6 in 1966 and served as the head of the British Secret Intelligence Service from 1999 until May 6, 2004. His tenure as the head of MI6, often referred to as “C”, showcased his leadership during a crucial period for intelligence services globally. In 1984, he was honoured with an OBE and in 2001, he received a knighthood. Following his intelligence career, Sir Dearlove served as the Master of Pembroke College, Cambridge, from 2004 to 2015. Currently, he holds the position of Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of London.
John Casson, the event’s organiser, expressed his gratitude for Sir Richard’s participation, stating, “I am very grateful to Sir Richard for agreeing to speak at this year’s fundraising dinner at a time when the world is in so much turmoil.”
The event is organised in aid of the Lord Lieutenant’s Fund for Young and Talented Individuals, a noble cause aiming to ensure that Cornwall’s future stars are given the opportunity to achieve their potential, regardless of financial means or background.
The Idle Rocks, a picturesque location known for its stunning views and luxurious ambience, is set to provide an elegant backdrop for an evening that promises to be both sophisticated and impactful. The event, limited to 65 guests, sold out within an impressive 10 days. Additionally, a waitlist of 45 people indicates the high level of support for the cause and the esteemed lineup of guest speakers over the years.
Previous fundraising dinners and lunches hosted by the John Casson Foundation have witnessed the support of notable personalities such as the late Sir Michael Parkinson, Lord Julian Fellowes, General Sir David Richards, Sandy Gall, Simon Weston, Hayley Mills, Stanley Johnson, and most recently, BBC’s Security Correspondent Frank Gardner. Their generosity and willingness to give their time has supported the Foundation to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for various charitable causes. Sir Richard Dearlove’s presence as this year’s guest speaker adds another distinguished name to this impressive list, highlighting the Foundation’s commitment to excellence in both its mission and its choice of speakers.
