Third Annual Recognition of Excellence in Policing Awards in Devon and Cornwall

The police service continues to face challenging times, making it all the more important to recognise and celebrate excellence in policing.

That is the view of John Casson, a former Devon and Cornwall Police officer, past Chair and current Patron of the Museum of Policing in Devon and Cornwall. John conceived and organised the first Recognition of Excellence in Policing Awards in 2024.

On Friday 12 June 2026, at the Sandy Park Banqueting and Conference Centre, just outside Exeter, 19 members of the force were recognised for their outstanding contribution to policing across Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Nearly 200 guests attended the event, including; Alison Hernandez, Police and Crime Commissioner; James Vaughan, Chief Constable; the High Sheriffs of Devon and Cornwall, and many other dignitaries. Guests enjoyed an excellent lunch before the awards ceremony commenced.

Drawing on his extensive experience in event management and fundraising, John secured £30,000 in sponsorships from generous supporters. This funding covered the full cost of the event, with the remaining balance donated to the Museum of Policing in Devon and Cornwall.
John said:
